REVIEW: The Hollywood Collection - Original Reproductions of Cinematic Jewels from Legendary Films

back

“Ilsa, I’m no good at being noble, but it doesn’t take much to see that the problems of three little people don’t amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. Someday you’ll understand that. Now, now…Here’s looking at you kid.”
Humphrey Bogart’s ‘Rick’ to Ingrid Bergman’s’ Ilsa’ in Casablanca, 1942

You know what it’s like when you come across something so special, you just can't wait to tell everyone about it. I felt like that when I watched Casablanca for the first time. And I felt like that when I discovered The Hollywood Collection, a truly inspired jewelry collection featuring original reproductions of cinematic jewels from legendary films like Casablanca (1942), Gone with the Wind (1939), Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), and many other old favorites. The spirit of the Classical Hollywood era is captured in this beautifully crafted collection.

Like a kid in a virtual candy store, I was mesmerized by all the gorgeous ‘goodies’ at The Hollywood Collection’s website. Right then and there, I made a ‘wish list’, and contacted the company to find out more. The result is my fascinating Interview with Elliot Abbott, the President of The Hollywood Collection, and this Review in which I share some of my favorites in the collection with you.

The Hollywood Collection offers a wide selection of rings, bracelets, necklaces, pendants, earrings, and brooches featuring dazzling cubic zirconias in every color of the rainbow, and high quality synthetic gemstones like rubies and emeralds set in 14K gold over sterling silver, pure 14K gold, or rhodium plated sterling silver.

One of my favorite pieces is ‘Garbo’s Classic Ruby Ring’, a 12.28 carat square-cut synthetic ruby ring in a 14K gold over sterling silver setting. As stunningly beautiful as the mysterious actress, this ring was worn by Greta Garbo in her portrayal of the famed dancer Grusinskaya in the 1932 movie, Grand Hotel. Berlin's plushest, most expensive hotel is the setting for the film where in the words of Dr. Otternschlag, "People come, people go. Nothing ever happens.” This outstanding ring has panache—it is a true classic just like the movie—and the enigmatic star who wore it.

My favorite Marilyn Monroe ‘diamond look’ starts with ‘Marilyn’s Super Spotlights’, an enchanting pair of earrings she wore in Ladies of the Chorus in 1949—a simple yet elegant design that features two 7 mm round-cut diamond cz’s each of which is 1.96 carats, suspended on a French hook. These beauties are set in 14K gold over sterling silver. Wear them with ‘Marilyn’s Diamond Pendant’, a 7.18 carat pear-shaped cz diamond set in 14K gold over sterling silver on an 18” black silk cord necklace. She wore this charming piece in a publicity photo to promote her role in the 1953 movie, 'How to Marry a Millionaire'.  To complete this glamorous look, slip on ‘Marilyn’s Choice’, a 3.76 carat cubic zirconia ring with 21 princess-cut cz diamonds step-set in 14K gold over sterling silver (also available in a pure 14K gold setting). Simply sensational!

The Hollywood Collection represents a timeless world of style, and brings to life the finest details of the extraordinary jewelry worn by movie stars of the 1920’s, 1930’s, 1940’s, and 1950’s. The collection celebrates great jewelry designs created over a 40 year span in our history when being ‘dressed to the nines’ was de rigueur, and jewelry was the ultimate personal expression.

It was the golden age of Hollywood when movie stars like Marilyn Monroe, Lana Turner, and Jean Harlow’s real lives, as dramatic as they were, could not eclipse their marvelous film performances. A time when stars like Ingrid Bergman, whose every performance was breathtaking, won one Oscar after another. Movies from those days still hold a magical allure for us. The Hollywood Collection pays tribute to the glamour, grace, beauty, and tremendous talent of these actresses, with exquisite jewelry that looks as wonderful today as it did back then.

The Hollywood Collection offers tremendous value and is priced just right for collecting. Many women collect the pieces their favorite movie stars wore; others collect jewels worn in their favorite old movies; and still others choose their favorites by design and color. Trendsetters and fashion divas collect The Hollywood Collection because designs like these never go out of style.

Quite simply, The Hollywood Collection is jewelry with pizzazz. It is jewelry that makes you look and feel like a million—wearable art that combines beauty, one-of-a-kind design, and a rich history. You just can’t get better than that.
